Champion's Heart

To what can I compare you, my champion's heart
for now you have gone and torn me apart

No longer are you summer,
Your actions, they bite
Like frost on the window
From the cold of the night

Are you maybe a flower,
Petals perfectly built?
I'm only to find
that soon you will wilt

Maybe a butterfly
So drawn to the heat
But when I'm away
New comfort you seek

Can I compare you to a pond
Peaceful and still
Diving in I notice
How shallow's your fill

Autumn seems perfect
For now I can see
That auburn leaves  crumble
Once they fall from the tree

Melodies will cease
And rain will soon dry
Stories have endings
Wind's bound to die

What you were, I have realized, is not who you are
I used to compare you to the proudest of stars
Burning forever, seen from aways
Giving me hope on the loneliest days
Clouds now have rolled over, casting shadows like nets
Demanding I settle all of love's debts

So to what can I compare you?
To granules' of sand
I fought to hold on, but you slipped through my hand.

The Serenity of the Sea on a Path by the Sand

Searching your eyes
Searching mine
The clock hands twitching
We're out of time

Now you remain
A beautiful memory
The moment's gone forever
A sailboat torn by the sea

Don't you worry about my heart
I'll mend it, good as new
I'll fill it to the full
Make the gray a blue

I'll find internal rest again
My mind will settle down
Breathing will come easier
Inner peace will be found

For as life goes on
So ever truly will I
All storms pass with patience
Soon again a steady tide

Forever to carry a part of you
For certain that I know
But that piece's recollections
Make me strong and help me grow

A sad smile joined with a wave
To completely let you free
Testing first steps of new paths
Breezes calm and prompting from the sea

Hall of Doors

Sauntering down a hallway
Your hand blanketed with mine
I notice the path is thinning out
And decide to pay it no mind

Suddenly you let go
Run the other way
I chase after you for a while
Sob a plea for you to stay

I come upon some door frames
With wood and lock and all
Finding they're all sealed shut
I continue down the hall

The walls are closing in now
The Light is fading fast
With panicked eyes I look around
For a door that isn't latched

Sliding down the wall
Giving up and giving in
I put my head back with a thud
The strength I had is wearing thin

Helpless looking at the ceiling
I notice a crack of light
Jumping up to investigate
Overcome with delight

For there I found a window
When I thought all hope was gone
I'll look back to make sure you're not there
But then I'll travel on.
