Champion's Heart

To what can I compare you, my champion's heart
for now you have gone and torn me apart

No longer are you summer,
Your actions, they bite
Like frost on the window
From the cold of the night

Are you maybe a flower,
Petals perfectly built?
I'm only to find
that soon you will wilt

Maybe a butterfly
So drawn to the heat
But when I'm away
New comfort you seek

Can I compare you to a pond
Peaceful and still
Diving in I notice
How shallow's your fill

Autumn seems perfect
For now I can see
That auburn leaves  crumble
Once they fall from the tree

Melodies will cease
And rain will soon dry
Stories have endings
Wind's bound to die

What you were, I have realized, is not who you are
I used to compare you to the proudest of stars
Burning forever, seen from aways
Giving me hope on the loneliest days
Clouds now have rolled over, casting shadows like nets
Demanding I settle all of love's debts

So to what can I compare you?
To granules' of sand
I fought to hold on, but you slipped through my hand.
